We aim to provide monthly fishing reports for the River Alness on this page throughout the main salmon season from July. For latest catch news from the Novar Fishings' beats visit their Facebook page.
If you catch a salmon, sea-trout or quality brown trout on any of the Alness fishings, then e-mail us the details via the enquiries page and we will include it in our catch reports.
The index provides access to monthly and, (up to 2012) weekly, catch reports in the main season going back to July 2009. Click on the links below to read the fishing reports for earlier seasons.

A Cooling Off Period
The week started with the water level at + 6in, but deteriorating weather brought rain on Monday, and more rain and howling gales on Tuesday, with the result that the lower beats were just about unfishable due to water height (the river level climbed to + 3ft on Tuesday night), and the upper beats were unfishable due to wind! Things had calmed a bit by Wednesday as the wind was replaced by snow showers(!) on the upper beats, though water levels were very high. By Thursday the river level was at +1 ft 9in, and it continued dropping through to + 1ft 4 in by Saturday, and the fishing gradually improved as the spate receded. There was also a welcome reduction in water temperature, which had been as high as 9 deg C just the week before.
The catch for the week overall was good, at 27 salmon & grilse, but the majority of these were caught in the second half of the week. Flemming Binnerup from Denmark cashed in on the Saturday with 4 grilse from Beat 4, and Anne Parker, with just one fish under her belt previously, caught 2 fish on the Monday from Beat 3 and another 2 fish on the Friday from Beat 2, as well as losing a double-figure fish on Beat 1 in high water on Wednesday.
A fresh 7+ lbs salmon caught, photographed & released by Jennifer Parker
Most fish are now colouring up, but there were still fresh fish entering the river this week, and a few silver fish were caught including this beauty of about 7 lbs caught and returned by Jennifer Parker from Raven’s Rock, Beat 4 on the 21st.
