We aim to provide weekly fishing reports for the River Alness on this page throughout the main salmon season from July. If you catch a salmon, sea-trout or quality brown trout on any of the Alness fishings, then e-mail us the details via the enquiries page and we will include it in our catch reports.
The index provides access to weekly catch reports since July 2009. Click on the links below to read the fishing reports for earlier seasons.
Novar 26/09/09by Novar Fishings Manager - 22:25 on 29 September 2009Windy Doldrums
The dry spell continued into its third week, and the fishing continued to be slow. Compensation flow maintained fishable water levels at + 2-3in for Monday to Thursday and a freshet released for Friday and Saturday reached + 6in, but although this resulted in some movement of fish there was little improvement in catches. The water should be well oxygenated though as very strong winds prevailed throughout most of the week and there were 3-4ft waves on Loch Morie for much of the time. Only 16 salmon and grilse are known to have been landed on the Novar beats for the week, significantly lower than would normally be expected at this time of the season. The most successful angler this week was Rupert Nicholson who had 4 fish including one of 10 lbs from Beat 2.
The water level for the start of the week will be + 3in. Weather forecasts suggest rain is imminent which if it materialises should improve conditions significantly.
