We aim to provide weekly fishing reports for the River Alness on this page throughout the main salmon season from July. If you catch a salmon, sea-trout or quality brown trout on any of the Alness fishings, then e-mail us the details via the enquiries page and we will include it in our catch reports.
The index provides access to weekly catch reports since July 2009. Click on the links below to read the fishing reports for earlier seasons.
Novar 17/10/09by Novar Fishings Manager - 19:41 on 20 October 2009Salmon Fishing Is Kid's Stuff!
The week started with a water level of approximately + 12in, dropping slowly throughout the week to close at + 6in. Fish were seen to be running hard for most of the week, so despite the excellent water levels the fishing was often frustrating, never easy and only really good in the earlier part of the week.
Angling effort was light, and only 19 salmon were landed from the Novar beats for the week. Ronald Munro Ferguson accounted for 4 on the Monday, and Tom Jardine landed 3 for his 2 days of fishing on Monday and Tuesday. Wayne Ranhosky from the US fishing in Scotland for the first time caught 3 for his week including a fish of around 11 lbs. The only ‘first salmon’ caught during the week was a 6 lbs fish caught by August Smidth from Denmark on Wednesday. The fish may look bigger, but bear in mind August is only 9 years old!

August Smidth
Water levels should remain good for this week, a minimum of + 4in, but some rain would spice things up.
